The most common retractable banner is 33 inches wide by roughly 79 to 81 inches tall, which is the size most trade shows and event organizers expect. Wider formats around 36 to 48 inches are used when a booth needs more presence. The stand, base and carry case are part of the same unit.
Less than you think, because banners are read from a distance. Artwork viewed from under six feet wants 200 to 300 DPI at final size, six to twelve feet is comfortable at 100 to 150. Vector artwork sidesteps the question entirely, since it scales to any size without losing an edge.
Vinyl banners typically hold up outdoors for one to three years and indoors for three to five. Sun, wind and rain do most of the damage. Mesh vinyl lasts longer in exposed, windy positions because the perforations let air pass instead of fighting it.
Roll them, do not fold them. Creases set permanently in vinyl and show up as hard white lines under event lighting. Roll with the printed side facing out and keep the roll somewhere cool and dry. Retractable banners solve this automatically, since the graphic retracts into its own base.
