What is pewter?

Pewter is a mixture of metals, the largest portion being pure tin. Small amounts of copper and antimony are required to harden and strengthen the alloy. The result is pewter, one of the most valuable metals in general use after platinum, gold and silver. Like gold and platinum, pewter does not tarnish. As pewter ages it takes on a soft, even patina which is very pleasing to the eye. Modern pewter is safe and meant for everyday use.

How is my pewter product made?

Each Sparta design is sculpted and created as a model by our artists and designers. We employ a number of artists who combine their traditional sculpting techniques with state of the art 3D scanners, 3D printers, milling machines and lasers. Moulds are then made from these originals before replicas are cast in fine pewter. Molten pewter is carefully poured into a mould and, once cooled, each piece is carefully extracted. Castings are oxidized and then carefully polished and buffed by hand with a cloth wheel to achieve the desired luster and patina. Paint is then added to the product when requested and the castings are then assembled.

Care of pewter

We recommend you wash the article in warm water with a light solution of dishwashing soap and dry with a soft cloth. Pewter does not withstand high temperatures. Do not use in a hot oven. High dishwasher temperatures and harsh detergent may damage pewter.
