For Canadian Forces Recruiting Centres and detachments, Reserve unit recruiting drives and the messes that buy the recognition — bilingual-ready, priced in CAD, and built around what Canadian policy actually permits.
Canadian Armed Forces recruiting is in the best position it has held in thirty years. FY2025-26 closed at 7,310 Regular Force enrolments against a target of 6,957, from 44,818 verified applications — and permanent-resident enrolments went from 109 two years earlier to 1,400. The target for FY2026-27 is 8,200. That recovery followed a genuine overhaul: probationary enrolment from 31 December 2024, the CFAT replaced by the Scored Employment Application Form in October 2024, and a modernised medical standard. Buying, meanwhile, is fragmented by design — roughly two dozen recruiting centres each plan and buy their own local attraction activity, alongside 185 Army Reserve units and 24 Naval Reserve divisions.
The Government of Canada fiscal year opens 1 April. It is also the RCAF's birthday. Recruiting centres that have spent March clearing a budget start the new year re-outfitting the front of house.

Public-fund delivery must land before 31 March to be paid from that year. Quote the in-hand date, not the ship date.
Roughly two dozen full-time recruiting centres plus detachments, each developing attraction plans tailored to its own area. That is two dozen separate buying conversations, not one national contract.

Anything carrying a slogan, URL or call to action is a communication and should be bilingual. A design mark alone is not.

Two campus seasons, September to October and January to February, plus Skills Canada provincial and national competitions where the CAF exhibits skilled trades. This is where the trades side of recruiting is actually won.

Booth banners and signage fall squarely under Official Languages Act s. 29 — both languages on one sign, or two signs of equal prominence.
The Calgary Stampede has a dedicated Canadian Armed Forces Area and a partnership dating to 1914. The CNE runs eighteen days in Toronto and closes with the Canadian International Air Show. These are the largest public audiences the CAF gets all year.

Nothing sold as advertising — only ADM(PA) conducts advertising under DAOD 2008-10 ¶4.6. Promotional and recognition items are a different category, and that distinction keeps a quote out of the wrong approval chain.

Operation UNIFIED RECRUITER makes every member a recruiter — 'learn three things from the aide-mémoire and talk to three people about joining the CAF.' Alongside it, 185 Army Reserve units in 86 cities and 24 Naval Reserve divisions run their own drives.

A unit badge on an item needs the CO's written authorisation under Heritage Manual Ch. 6 s.10 para 6. Send it with the art and everyone is covered.
The unit coin, the departure gift, the mess piece. There is no CAF-wide policy instrument governing challenge coins — the operative authority is a commanding officer authorising non-commercial reproduction of their own unit badge, and the money is almost always NPP rather than public funds.

Non-Public Property — unit and mess funds (DAOD 9003-1)
Public funds are not used for gifts marking social occasions such as retirement or promotion. That is precisely why these run on the mess. Our library holds no Canadian pewter — these are produced from your art on blank crests.
11 November and the poppy; the first Sunday of June for Canadian Armed Forces Day; the first Sunday of May for Battle of the Atlantic; 1 April for the RCAF and 4 May for the Royal Canadian Navy's founding. The presentation pieces that mark them.

Unit funds and NPP; DAOD 5027-1 awards where formal recognition applies
Canadian, not American. Remembrance Day and the poppy, not Memorial Day. Canadian spelling — honour, defence, centre. We proof to that as standard.
DAOD 5027-1 caps an individual Special Award at $500 and a group award at $1,000, taxes included. Merit Awards run to $5,000 individual and $10,000 group. Level 1 managers approve within their organisations.
Canada's Interim Policy on Reciprocal Procurement, in force 14 July 2025, applies to non-defence procurements over $10,000. Below that threshold the policy does not apply at all — which is where a centre's coin run or a detachment's giveaway order naturally sits.
Non-Public Property vests in unit commanders under DAOD 9003-1 and exists for the benefit of CAF members. Mess and unit-fund purchases run on it, and the public-funds rules above do not govern them.
The Official Languages Act requires signage to carry both languages or be paired with an equally prominent sign in the other (s. 29). We design every text field with the headroom French needs and quote bilingual as standard, not as an extra.
Three things we will tell you straight rather than let you find out later. Federal Identity Program standards prohibit the Canada wordmark on promotional apparel — shirts, jackets, vests and hats — outright. CAF badges are Crown property: a commanding officer may authorise non-commercial reproduction of their own unit badge under Heritage Manual Ch. 6 s.10 para 6, which is why no CAF badge appears anywhere in this catalog. And Canada's counter-tariffs effective 8 September 2026 hit several U.S.-made goods categories, apparel among them, at up to 50%. Ask us for a landed CAD quote with duty stated separately and dated — anything else would be guessing.
Under CAD $10,000, yes and cleanly — Canada's Interim Policy on Reciprocal Procurement, in force 14 July 2025, applies to non-defence procurements over $10,000, so below that it does not bite. Above $10,000 the position is genuinely unsettled: the policy makes foreign suppliers eligible only for procurements covered by a trade agreement, and Canada's access for the U.S. runs through the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement, whose goods threshold is $239,200. We are not going to tell you that band is safe when we cannot show you that it is. Ask your procurement authority, and buy under $10,000 or through your mess where you can.
Signage and banners, effectively yes — Official Languages Act s. 29 requires both languages on a sign or a paired sign of equal prominence, and s. 22 reaches materials likely to interest the public generally. Printed handouts follow the same logic. Coins, plaques and mess pieces carrying a unit badge and motto generally do not. Anything with a slogan, URL or call to action should be treated as a communication. We design every text field with the 15-30% expansion French needs, and quote bilingual as standard.
Yes, with your commanding officer's authorisation. CAF badges are Crown property retained by DND. Heritage Manual Ch. 6 s.10 para 6 lets a formation commander or CO authorise non-commercial reproduction on trophies, personal items and gifts; anything beyond that goes to the Directorate of History and Heritage. That is why no CAF badge appears anywhere in this catalog — publishing one would be commercial use. Send the art with the authorisation and we produce it.
No. The Federal Identity Program's promotional items design standard prohibits it in terms: the Canada wordmark and corporate signature must not be applied to promotional apparel such as shirts, jackets, vests or hats. They are permitted on items that carry programme information, a call to action, a hashtag or a URL. Your unit or centre identity is the right mark for apparel.
Ask for a CAD quote and we will state duty separately and date it. Canada's counter-tariffs effective 8 September 2026 apply rates up to 50% across several categories including clothing and apparel, and the list moves. We would rather give you a dated landed figure you can budget against than a U.S. price you have to guess at.
Proofs are free and unlimited until you approve one. Screen printing and embroidery turn fastest; pewter casting and coin production take longest, because both start from a new die. If you are buying on public funds against a 31 March year-end, say so up front and we plan the schedule to land before it.
Coins, pewter, apparel, drinkware, displays and awards, all made in house with free unlimited proofs. Give us your in-hand date and we build the schedule around it.
