The Air Guard is not the Army Guard.
Eighty-nine flying units. Two hundred forty-two mission support units, eleven aeromedical evacuation squadrons and twenty-three aerial port units. Organised wing, group, squadron, flight, with its own recruiting and retention chain in the RROIC, the RRSEL and the Retention Office Manager, and its own recognition programme in Outstanding Airmen of the Year.
So this is a separate catalog rather than the Army one with the word Airman pasted over it. The moments below belong to the wing, and the funding notes on each one name the office that actually holds the money.
New Fiscal Year, New Mission
The fiscal year turns over on 1 October and the wing’s recruiting and retention mission resets with it. National retention material comes down from NGB/RRM. Everything the wing needs on top of that is bought locally.

The Air Guard’s Birthday, 1947
The National Security Act of 18 September 1947 created the Air Force, and the Air National Guard with it, out of fifty-nine aviation units inherited from the Army. The wing shares the date with the Air Force birthday, and most mark both.

Focus on the Force and Outstanding Airmen of the Year

How Guard units buy this
- 10 U.S.C. § 2261
- Appropriated funds may buy recognition items, meaning coins, medals, trophies, badges, flags and similar, valued at under $50 each for recruiting and retention. Those may be presented to members and to the family members who support their service. Low-cost bulk handouts are handled separately from this rule.
- Micro-purchase threshold
- The federal threshold has been $15,000 since 1 October 2025, but Army policy still publishes $10,000 and individual cardholder limits are set locally and are often lower. Design the order around $10,000 unless your card says otherwise. Above the threshold and up to the simplified acquisition threshold, promotional-item buys are set aside for small business.
- NGR 601-1 and ANGI 36-2602
- Guard-specific ceilings for presentation items and award items sit in NGR 601-1, revised 1 April 2025. Air Guard recruiting and retention runs under ANGI 36-2602. Those figures get updated. Confirm the current ones with your USPFO or your R&R chain before you lock a spec, because we would rather quote to the right number the first time. Nothing on this page is contracting advice.
